Grisedale Tarn, Coast to Coast
The first time we walked from Grasmere to Patterdale, in 2016, we rambled up Little Tongue following the Coast to Coast path. We did so on a rough weather day, the wind howling and shrieking around us and the mist cloaking our view all the way to the summit of our walk, Gavel Gap. From Gavel Gap it was only a short distance to Grisedale Tarn.
At the tarn the mist receded from us and the full splendour of Grisedale Tarn, laying in the bowl created by Seat Sandal, Fairfield and Dollywaggon Pike was displayed before us.
We repeated the walk again in 2018, but on a really sunny day. The contrast was amazing, and filled our souls with wonderment at the beauty of this trail, wisely included by Alfred Wainwright in his Coast to Coast walk. On such a day sitting and lunching at the side of the tarn is highly recommended.
