The Wild Beauty of the Coast to Coast Path

Riggindale, Hawswater, Coast to Coast

Riggindale, Hawswater, Coast to Coast

Riggindale is the valley that forms between Kidsty Pike to the north and Riggindale Crag to the south. High Street provides a high wall to its west. Riggindale Beck issues from a spring between Twopenny Crag and Kidsty Pike, part way down the steep cliff walls and known as the Head of Riggindale Beck. At the foot of the steep cliff drop, before the descent lessens in severity, is Sale Pot which is a small cirque or corrie. Riggindale Beck flows from the small valley it creates until joined further down by a series of small becks from Hause Crag and from below Kidsty Pike.

The joining of the latter is where Riggindale truly begins, the water turbulently making its way down the valley to reach the bridge at Bowderthwaite, to spill into Hawswater between The Rigg and Gate Crag. This is where the Coast to Coast path comes down from Kidsty Howes and crosses the beck on the Bowderthwaite Bridge.
