Coast to Coast Walk UK

The Wild Beauty of the Coast to Coast Path

Wain Stones - Hasty Bank - Coast to Coast

Wain Stones, Hasty Bank, Coast to Coast

The Wain Stones are a weathered sandstone craggy outcrop a mile south of Great Broughton, and on the very edge of the North Yorks Moors. The Coast to Coast path passes through them to access the ridge top between Hasty Bank and Broughton Bank. There are carvings on some of the Wain Stones, showing cup and ring markings that date back to the Bronze Age.

The Coast to Coast path follows the Cleveland Way up to and beyond the Wain Stones, and is paved on the steeper parts. Many routes lead through the Stones to the ridge top, from where a wonderful view across the lowland of the Mowbray Vale can be seen, far into the distance to Middlesbrough.
